Korean Barbieq
Objective:
CELEBRATE FEMALE EMPOWERMENT AND THE FLAVORS OF KOREAN BBQ WITH UNEXPECTED FARE AND COCKTAILS THAT WAKE THE BRAIN.
Location: Larimer Square, Denver, Colorado
Attendees: 500+ people over 6 nights
Highlights of the experience:
One of Denver’s first pop up experiences, Korean BarbieQ was not only a play on words, but a fusion of concepts, bringing Barbie components blended with Korean design elements that are all about setting the tone of empowering women of all ages. The vacant restaurant space was completely transformed with bold color, changing lights, chopstick pendants, barbie chandeliers, Korean movie poster wallpaper, chevron leg wallpaper (Barbie legs and mannequin legs), a blonde hair wall, washed with a neon sign “I’m F*cking Perfect”, all female DJs and performers surrounded by women’s march posters, along with an Oval Office photo booth, sign made of acrylic nails and hammer nails spelling “tough as nails.” This elaborate experience highlights the foods and flavors of Korean BBQ with food prepared by SMOK’s Bill Espequerta and imaginative cocktails by Shawn Campbell.
